FAQs

  • What is a design-build firm?

A design-build firm takes care of the design as well as the construction phase of your project. Typically, the process involves homeowners working with a designer before taking those plans over to a general contractor to execute the vision. By hiring a design-build firm like Outdoor Influence, you only have to explain your vision to one company and you get both specialties in one, making your experience much more streamlined.

  • How do I choose a design-build contractor?

This all comes down to two things: a portfolio you really love & a connection with people you will enjoy working with. First things first, take a look at your design-build firms’ portfolio. This will give you a good idea of what your design-build firm is capable of. Here at Outdoor Influence, we put our clients wants and needs first. Take a look at our portfolio here.

  • Do you specialize in one particular style?

We at Outdoor Influence Design & Build are capable of executing many “styles”. We integrate trending concepts with timeless philosophy to guide our clients toward a build that is not marked by contemporary influences, and will reflect the desires and tastes of each client. Each client is unique, therefore, each project is unique.

  • Does Outdoor Influence offer financing?

Yes! You can take a look into our financing options here.

  • How far out are we booked?

This will be a great question to ask during your consult as it is changing everyday - but trust us it is never too early to reach out and start chatting about your project! We want to make sure there is plenty of time in the design phase of the project. Book a consult here!

  • Where can I go to see updates of current projects and portfolios?

  • Do I need a retaining wall?

Depends, each property has its individual grating/drainage plans. Initially, we recommend marking out the area that will be renovated and measuring the elevation difference form your point marking 0 to the perimeter of the project.

  • Do retaining walls need an engineer?

Most counties require engineering for any walls over 4 feet of height. We recommend consulting an engineering firm for any projects involving high water table levels, cliffs/extreme slopers, and bad soils.

  • What do I get in a design package?

Design package includes 2D and 3D planning the entire scope of the project. From all the necessary measurements…

  • Do you subcontract everything out?

Unlike majority of the builders, we focus on in-housing most aspects of the pool build. We have our own crews for pool excavation, plumbing, rebaring, tile and coping. We subcontract necessary specialty license traits such as electrical and mechanical/gas. For the shotcrete and plaster work, we use a local company out of Pineville, NC called Quality Pool Groups.

  • What are the warranties?

Pool equipment, manufacturer warranty by Jandy is good for up to 5 years. The pool shell carries a non-transferrable lifetime warranty. We provide worksmanship warranty of 10 years on all of our hardscaping, plumbing, etc.

  • What is open graded base?

Open graded base is a newer technology for the construction/ hardscaping industry. Instead of the standard dense graded base, ABC, we use #57 Clean Aggregated Stone. The 57 Stone is already compacted once it’s laid. The 59 Stone reaches 95% proctor density, which is considered the benchmark necessary to meet for the base of patios. On the other side, ABC needs to be compacted using different machinery which at times does not get every single spot up to the benchmark necessary; therefore lacking structural integrity in the long run.

  • Do I need to be home when building is occuring?

No, you do not. We make sure to address all of the questions during the initial consultation process and the planning phase to avoid miscommunication.

  • What are possible extra costs?

At times we hit rock, we charge an hourly rate when it is necessary to bring out a breaker to break away rock and chip it to be able to continue excavation. There is also a chance of bad soil which causes a need for engineered helical piers, usually on extreme slopes, bad fill soil area, etc.

  • Who handles the permits?

Outdoor Influence will handle all the necessary city and county permits. We will also provide any of the necessary paperwork and files for submission to Homeowner Associations.

  • Does OIDB do pool maintenance?

    Coming Spring 2023.

  • What is my return on investment?

An average 14-by-28 in-ground pool is estimated to add between 5 and 8 percent to the value of a home, according to HGTV. Using HomeAdvisor’s national average cost, that would only mean a return investment on homes worth more than $557,000.
